"(How Does It Feel To Be) On Top Of The World" was the official England song for the World Cup 1998. Released on 1st June 1998, its story is simple: it flopped. The track, even with the Spice Girls' contribution, managed to limp into the charts at #9, spending a dismal 3 weeks in the Top 40. The song was overshadowed by David Baddiel and Frank Skinner's anthem "3 Lions 98", and was poorly promoted. "On Top Of The World" is quite poppy, and so wouldn't appeal to football fans who would be more into "Vindaloo" or "3 Lions 98", which were more popular songs. However, the song managed to sell 92,000 copies in the UK - the 179th best seller of 1998.
